VICTORIA, BC — With over 75,000 single-use items thrown out every day in Victoria, the Bread & Butter Collective is taking action to curb waste with the launch of a reusable takeout container program.

The Eco Reusable Container program starts January 15th, 2022. Bread & Butter Collective members will encourage Victorians to use reusable take out containers. The program helps to reduce single-use plastics and products in our community. Launching as a pilot project, the program is an easy way for community members to enjoy food at multiple locations without the waste.

“There are both economic and environmental benefits to using these containers. Including a lower carbon footprint, with increased use. Every time an eco container is used and reused, a disposable item is saved from being created. The ecological benefits for using this reusable container far outweighs the amount of resource inputs and waste generated by single-use disposable containers,” says Maryanne Carmack - President of the Bread & Butter Collective.

Bread & Butter Collective is proud to offer a sustainable option to our community by coming together in partnership with the city of Victoria to provide multi-use take out containers to help reduce waste. “Innovative ideas like this supported by our local businesses are what’s going to get us to our goal of a zero waste, circular economy. We’re investing to create a more sustainable city through our Zero Waste Victoria strategy, and we will only be able to get there by working together,” said Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps.
