Places to Eat

Victoria is going to be welcoming Leopold’s Tavern to town soon. This tavern experience began in Regina, SK, and their success has found them opening multiple locations across the prairie provinces; we can’t wait to see them become a Victoria favourite. With literal poutine punchbowls on the menu (yeah, we’re talking four pounds of potatoes, a pound of cheese curds and a pound of gravy), you’re going to want to wear your stretchy pants.

If you’re looking for a truly unique dining experience, you will definitely want to check out The Dark View Restaurant in Parksville. The dark-dining restaurant opened a few months ago and gives guests the opportunity to see what’s it like to experience complete darkness while eating. Owner Lazare Hounnake-Adele hopes it will give guests a greater understanding and empathy for the vision-impaired. No light emitting devices are allowed, so once you’ve ordered in the lit foyer, you will be guided in to the dark dining room where you’ll have a dining experience you won’t soon forget.

And if unique is your thing, maybe head to Runge’s Deli in Courtenay to grab lunch sometime. They are offering “Runge’s Pickle Rueben,” a sandwich that uses pickles instead of bread. Talk about a satisfying crunch!

Craft Fare opened just a few months ago in Nanaimo and invites you to “eat in their kitchen and drink on their porch.” Partake in comfort food (made in-house/locally sourced) and craft beer in their relaxing environment, and don’t be surprised if you find yourself settling in for longer than you intended.

Taco Tuesday, anyone? We don’t discriminate; tacos are delicious any day of the week— especially if you go to Victoria’s new taco destination, Azteca Tacos and Grill. With a menu full of delicious tacos and burritos and tostadas and more, there’s something for everyone.

Kitchen Supplies

Who else loves kitchen stores? They are filled with awesome gadgets and items to make life easier or get your creative juices flowing in the kitchen. Got something on your kitchen wish list? Pop in to Chef Sense Supplies, which just opened in Courtenay, and find all the things on your list (and probably a few extras!).

Coffee

Coffee lovers, get yourself to Victoria's Discovery Coffee March 13–15 for a free opportunity to watch some of the best baristas in the world compete in Canada's 2020 National Barista Championship. The roasting facility is excited to be the presenting sponsors of the competition and show the rest of Canada the quality coffee scene present in the city.
