Dinner Out (or In)
A mother-daughter duo has opened a new eatery in Victoria. Dumpling Drop, located in the city’s Chinatown, offers a variety of tasty dumplings made with traditional methods. You can buy them frozen to make at home or enjoy them fresh while dining in.
On Sunday, Dec. 13, from noon until 4:00 p.m. LUSH Valley Food Action Society in the Comox Valley is holding a Holiday Harvest Meal Fundraiser, which features meals prepared by Chef James McKerricher of The Farmer’s Kitchen Food Truck. Tickets need to be purchased in advance, but there’s still time to buy them and indulge in some delicious take-away food.
Cornerstone Taphouse in Courtenay has a new chef—and with a new chef comes a new menu that is filled with dishes that are made of locally sourced and locally grown products. From appetizers like Fried Brioche (stuffed with cheese curds and garlic butter) to desserts like Coconut Tres Leches (with pineapple and peanut brittle), it’s definitely worth checking out.
Community Recognition
We want to applaud all the incredible volunteers who have put their time and energy into working for Red Cedar Café in Victoria. They have been generously offering a pay-what-you-can system in order to help provide for those in need who have been financially impacted because of the pandemic. The program began in April with 150 meals a week, but they now provide over 2,500 each week.
Closed
Cluxewe Waterfront Bistro in Port McNeill had to close their doors last month. The community will miss the great food, service, and ambience that the establishment had been popular for, but we are excited to hear they are looking into other opportunities in the north island to re-establish themselves and wish them well in their endeavors.
