New Places and Spaces

Boomtown Burritos and Beer Garden just opened at 950 Yates Street. They have a massive patio that’s been designed in a unique “bleacher” style, featuring mini gardens, covered seating and heating. Their beer list has 20 taps and cans of beer from around the world, and they promise to offer you the best burrito in town.

Woodshed Provisions on Salt Spring Island has opened up a new shop at 319-#2 Upper Ganges Road. There you’ll find a full selection of their products as well as some of their favourite wares. Their original Woodshed location (243 King Road) is also still open and is stocked with fresh baking, salads, soups, picnic and charcuterie fare.

A new Indian restaurant in Qualicum is serving up the best of Indian cuisine to the neighbourhood. Jaanvi’s Indian Restaurant has talented chefs serving up authentic, flavourful dishes for dine-in or takeout.

North Cowichan has approved up to $82,000 to fund the Cowichan Green Community’s food hub project, which will be located on Beverly Street. The funds, coming from the Climate Action and Energy Plan’s reserve funds, will cover building and development permit fees for the agricultural centre.

Millstream Beverage Company is a new brewery to Langford, having had its grand opening in November. There’s a large, all-season patio where you can not only enjoy a pint of their beer but also tasty menu items, like homemade pizza.

Coffee Shack Westshore just opened their doors in Langford on December 3rd. They’re a sister shop to their first location, which was opened in Cobble Hill in 2017. The new space offers a cozy space to enjoy your piping hot coffee in the morning.

‘Tis the Season

…for Christmas lights and festive gatherings. Merridale Cidery & Distillery has set up their farm to be the perfect place to wander through their courtyard, which is filled with thousands of twinkling lights. To warm you from the inside out, sample a cider or enjoy a cocktail flight when you visit.

Milner Gardens & Woodland is also open for the season and ready to bring smiles to everyone’s faces with their Milner Christmas Magic outdoor festival. Grab a hot chocolate from their refreshment stand and enjoy the multitude of Christmas lights decorating the pathways, take a photo in Santa’s sleigh and get some last-minute Christmas shopping done!

The Rock Cod Café in Cowichan Bay has been a community favourite for 15 years—but they’re the latest casualty of the pandemic and have permanently closed their doors. We’re sorry to see them go and wish the owners and staff well as they move on to other things.

Congratulations

OpenTable is an online restaurant reservation system that recently unveiled its top 100 restaurants across the country based on diner reviews. Congrats to Victoria’s Bear & Joey (left, photo from Instagram) and Ferris’ Upstairs Seafood and Oyster Bar for making the list!

Congratulations to the Rashleigh family who recently won the Century Farm and Ranch Award for Saanichton Farm. For 100 years, the family has owned and operated the farm, which began with wheat, barley and dairy cattle and now specalizies in forage grass production.
