New Owners

Prontissima Pasta in Courtenay is under new ownership. The business promises to maintain its high-quality reputation of providing exceptional products. We are excited to support this transition and wish the new owners all the best (a current and a former employee and a former sous chef).

Awards

The winners of the Growler’s 2019 Craft Beer Readers’ Choice Awards have been announced, and the Island was proudly represented in the awards. Port Alberni’s Twin City Brewing won seven medals, and Driftwood Breweryin Victoria even took home the Beer of the Year award.

Worth a Read

It might be a bit early to think about spring gardening, but this recently published book by a local Comox Valley resident is the perfect gift for the gardener in your life. A columnist for the Comox Valley Record, Leslie Cox has compiled a number of her articles from the past 15 years and compiled them into a gardening book: Duchess of Dirt: The Record Years. You can pick up your copy of the book at a number of Comox Valley bookstores.

Now Open

Regardless of where you live on the Island, you might want to schedule a trip to Duncan in the near future to check out the newly opened Ironworks Café and Creperie. With their first location in Ladysmith becoming a quick success, we’ve no doubt this second location will also become a local favourite. With a varied menu that includes items like a Cherry Garcia crepe or Butter Chicken crepe, there’s lots of options to choose from!

Product of the Week

It’s time to think about what to stuff in those Christmas morning (or eve) stockings. Lucky for you, Island Sodaworks in Qualicum Beach has just released a stocking stuffer-sized DIY Probiotic Soda kit. The kit is only $6 but cultures an entire litre of soda. They’re for sale directly from the farm, or you can order them to be shipped to you.

Places to Try

Find yourself needing a night out? SoCal Restaurant in Campbell River has you covered, especially if you’re a Caesar fan: they take their Caesar drinks to the next level. With a delicious menu and comfortable atmosphere, it’s the perfect place to take an evening off.
