Now Open and Coming Soon

Have you checked out Comox’s new café? Boasting a varied menu that includes many gluten-free and vegan options, the Tidal Café wants to help you “start your day on the sunny side.” Tag us in your food photos on Instagram when you check them out!

A new compost facility has been approved for building at the Campbell River Waste Management Centre. This facility will serve Courtenay, Campbell River, Cumberland and Comox and will allow for organic materials (such as food and yard waste) to be repurposed into compost for agricultural and landscape uses. Construction is expected to be complete by 2021.

Plant-based eaters will be excited to hear that award-winning restaurant Virtuous Pie is opening their first Vancouver Island location in Victoria. Opening in December (with a patio to come in the spring), the large location will offer a cocktail menu alongside its popular plant-based menu items like pizzas, ice cream and other side dishes and bar food options.

Congratulations

A round of applause to Land & Sea Brewing in Comox, who just took home the win for the BC Ale Trail’s second annual Best Brewery Experience award! The less-than-a-year-old brewery is well-deserving of the title, with a delightful location complementing their delicious beer and menu offerings.

Snack Time

You haven’t tasted a real corn tortilla chip until you’ve had them from Abuelo’s Corn Tortillas. Made in Courtenay, these fresh, hand-made, gluten-free tortillas and chips will bring your fajita and nacho game to the next level, we promise!

Hidden Gem

Port Alberni is a great place to stop and stay, or even grab a bite of lunch in if you’re travelling to or from Tofino or Ucluelet. If you find yourself in town with a grumbling tummy, check out Boomerang Café (aptly named because they’ll “keep you coming back"!). With a cozy interior and a menu that spans all three mealtimes, it’s the perfect place to add to your “eat here next” list.

’Tis the Season

Are you getting into the holiday spirit yet? Costco may have been selling Christmas trees since August, but with December now right around the corner, everyone else seems to finally be joining in. Meaning, it’s time to start planning your holiday activities…

The Tofino Winterlights Festival runs nightly starting November 29th, a family-friendly festival with beautiful light displays and fun children’s activities. Grab yourself a hot chocolate and a baked good from Darwin’s Café as you enjoy wandering through the festival.

If you are unable to make it all the way to the West Coast, check out Milner Christmas Magic in Qualicum Beach starting December 6th. Sip some hot apple cider from Camellia Tea Room to keep warm; or, come with an appetite and find the refreshment stand for a baked Echo Valley Farm potato with toppings or chili with a cheddar biscuit. Whatever you choose, the festive lights are sure to put you in the holiday mood!
