Getting there

From the Island Highway, turn west onto Highway 4 just north of Qualicum Beach. After about two hours’ drive, you’ll reach The Junction; turn left, and you’ll reach Ukee in a few more minutes. Note that there is major ongoing construction at the Kennedy Lake stretch of the highway.

Alternatively, Pacific Coastal Airlines flies from Victoria or Vancouver to Tofino (pacificcoastal.com) and Tofino Bus Island Express makes stops in Victoria, Nanaimo, Parksville, Port Alberni, Ucluelet and Tofino (tofinobus.ca).

Staying and dining there

Most accommodations in Ucluelet are of the B&B variety, with a few exceptions. Among them:

The grandest property in Ucluelet is the Black Rock Water Resort, which is also home to Fetch Restaurant and Float Lounge.

Pluvio restaurant + rooms offers high-end dining in a casual setting, as well as four art-filled boutique guest rooms right downtown Ucluelet.

Water’s Edge Suites offer well-appointed accommodation with beautiful views right on the harbour.

Heartwood Kitchen is the place to go for hearty west coast favourites and the most popular brunch in town.

Frankie’s Resto-Bar is a great stop for traditional barbecue, B.C. wines and craft cocktails.

Everyone goes to Zoë’s Bakery and Café for breakfast or a break.
