The Victoria Public Market will soon be home to a vibrant hub of food innovation. The Coho Commissary - Victoria Hudson is a Class 1 kitchen and food prep space, the perfect place for small businesses, caterers, virtual restaurants and wholesale food production. 

There’s a new coffee spot coming this fall to Cumberland that promises to be the perfect place to warm up after an autumn mountain bike ride. Laneway Coffee & Kitchen will be a multi-roaster café serving coffee (of course) and sandwiches for brunch and lunch. 

49 Below Ice Cream recently opened up their first storefront in Oak Bay, much to the joy of anyone who has ever. tried their delicious ice cream. (They also have a subscription service so if you need to make sure you get your ice cream fix every month, they’ve got you covered.)

Rusted Rake Brewing is now open in Nanoose Bay, having just celebrated their one-month anniversary. The family-run brewery and gastropub uses local ingredients to create their menu and uses their very own homegrown barley to make their beer.

In Port Alberni, there’s a new eight-week Seafood Processing Training Program that is operating out of Dock+. Through the North Island College program, students learn how to process finfish and shellfish while networking potential employers in the industry. 

The former Elk Falls pulp mill in Campbell River is going to have a new lease on life with a transformation to a CubicFarm System as an indoor agricultural facility producing fresh produce in modular, food-grade steel systems.

The Saanich Fair is returning September 3­5th for their 154th year, with the theme of "Plant Your Roots at the Fair" with the feature being vegetables. The event is Western Canada’s oldest agricultural fair and features music, vendors, auctions and more.  

Looking for something to do August 21? Shirley Day in Shirley will host 30 tents of crafters, farm producers and community organizers from 10 am to 5pm. Find the festivities at Pioneer Park and Shirley Hall.
