Updates
The season of snowboarding and skiing up Mount Washington is just around the corner—and now there’s another reason to drive up into the winter wonderland when the snow flies; Jackknife Pizza will be operating their mobile kitchen from the sunrise parking lot up Mount Washington every weekend, serving fresh bagel sandwiches and wood-fired pizza.
Tofino Resort and Marina have welcomed Chef Terry Somerville to the 1909 Kitchen team as executive chef and his wife Chef Kristine Morrow as executive pastry chef. The experienced duo plan to build upon the reputation of the resort in providing a delicious menu carefully curated to use local, seasonal products, ensuring every visit to their dining room is a memorable one.
Coming Soon
A new business will be opening in the previous Copper Owl location in Victoria. New owners Tim Siebert and Jessa Gildersleeve want to give the place a new, yet nostalgic look by opening up Citrus and Cane, a ’70s style tropical cocktail bar. The elegant throw-back bar will feature tropical, tiki, and classic cocktails. Pina Colada lovers, you’ll definitely want to check this one out.
A new chocolate shop is opening in Victoria—but while the shop may be new, the experience of the chocolatier is vast. Bob Atwell has over 40 years of experience in the chocolate industry, and he came out of retirement to continue to make the decadent treat. Casey's Chocolates also offers ice cream, coffee, sandwiches and smoothies.

Look for a unique restaurant–grocery hybrid opening in Saanich in spring 2021. Niche Grocerant will be opening in the Broadmead Village Shopping Centre, offering food and ingredients for dine-in, take-out, and make-at-home. They will be partnering with local restaurants and producers and want the space to reflect a European, community-focussed atmosphere.
We are very excited about Chef Ian Riddick’s new venture as he works toward opening Shipwreck Pizza in Ucluelet. Stay tuned for more information on this one!

Have you been to the new Wild Poppy Market in Ladysmith yet? Formerly Wild Poppy Bistro, the redesigned market offers grab-and-go meals, baked goods, drinks, and delicious gluten-free products.
Another business that underwent a fresh change is the former Hudson’s on First in Duncan; now Hattie’s Farm-to-Table, the business is committed to focussing even more on operating sustainably and sourcing local, seasonal products for their farm-to-table model.
Gifts
The holiday season is approaching, and we want to encourage you to buy local gifts as much as possible! We'll have lots of ideas for you over the holiday season (watch for our Winter Holiday Gift Guide coming soon), but remember that gift cards to local restaurants are always a great gift!
Off The Eaten Track Culinary Tours and The London Chef Cooking School have partnered to create a gift certificate bundle that is perfect for the foodie obsessed: The Cooking Class + Food Tour Bundle includes a virtual cooking class for two guests from The London Chef and two tickets to the Downtown Food & City Tour from Off The Eaten Track.
Closed
We are sorry to see OLO Restaurant in Victoria permanently close their doors. Their decade-long contribution to the dining scene of Vancouver Island will be sorely missed.
