New Places
 

There’s a new restaurant in Oak Bay called Tapas on Oak. They are continuing their “soft opening” through October, open Thursday & Friday from 4pm to 10pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 11:00am to 10pm. They specialize in creating small plates filled with delicious food that is complemented by smooth wine and jazz.

Travellers flying out of the Comox Valley, it’s time to rejoice: On the Fly Café has opened a satellite café post-security, so you’re no longer bound to the vending machines to grab some food and drink while you await your flights.

If you’re driving by the former Sassy’s Restaurant in Brentwood Bay, you might be surprised to see the building painted hot pink. The new colour heralds the coming of the fourth Floyd’s Diner location. Watch for it to open the beginning of November. 

Along the Sunshine Coast in Gibsons, a new restaurant called Brassica has opened, with a constantly revolving menu according to the local ingredients available and the creative desires of the chefs.

Get your tickets for Crabtoberfest! On November 5th at 5:30, gather at the Maritime Museum of BC for a crab dinner, beer, live music and games, presented by Finest at Sea and Phillips Brewing and Malting Co. All the proceeds will go toward the programs, exhibits, and operations of the museum.

Speaking of “fests,” Tofino’s Oysterfest is taking place on November 25­­­­–27th. Made up of three events (Mermaid’s Ball, Oyster Festival Gala and Shucker’s Showdown), the event promises to be a weekend full of food, music and oysters.

On Thursday, October 20th, head over to Finest at Sea’s covered patio to celebrate shellfish season. $25/person gets you one pound of mussels, plus fries and bread. But space is limited, so call to book your spot (250-383-7760).

After a three-year hiatus, Every Chef Needs a Farmer, Every Farmer Needs a Chef is returning to Victoria on November 7th. The networking event invites farmers, chefs and food service professionals to share information and showcase products, helping to strengthen the provincial food system.
