Hastings House prides itself on supporting local food sustainability, offering a unique farm-to-table experience. They grow up to 70% of their produce in their own pesticide-free garden—it doesn’t get any fresher than having the vegetables, fruits and herbs picked just hours before they’re incorporated into a beautiful dinner.
Spread over a lush 22 acres on Salt Spring Island, Hastings House Country House Hotel is the closest thing you’ll find to a real-life fairy tale, with everything you need to disconnect from the stress of daily life: incredible views from every cottage; picturesque West Coast flora complementing the historical buildings; a menu filled with food that is as beautiful as it is delicious; and a spa that will ease both your body and mind.
This historic property dates back to a 19th-century Hudson’s Bay outpost, and the elegant Manor House at its heart was built in 1939 by then-owners Warren and Barbara Hastings. The 30-seat dining room opened in 1981, and under current owners Bonny O’Conner and Jerry Parks, it is now part of the international Relais & Chateaux family.
Visiting Hastings House is a true West Coast experience, far from the cookie-cutter resort mold that has become increasingly common. The rich history surrounding the resort has been celebrated, with the quaint cottages and suites providing unique features and charm. A freshly cut bouquet of flowers set in the room will welcome you in, a testament to how every detail is considered for your stay, including fresh morning muffins delivered to your door, a made-to-order full breakfast and an evening turn-down service.
Swiss-born Chef Marcel Kauer joined Hastings House in 1991, and continues to change his menu daily, merging European technique with inspiring local ingredients. For items they don’t produce themselves, Kauer sources from other local businesses, such as lamb from Ruckle Heritage Farm or decadent cheese from Salt Spring Island Cheese Company. Hastings House also offers a variety of local wines and beer, and during their daily happy hour, you can indulge in a refreshing drink from their cocktail program while soaking in the sea breeze on the verandah.
